Departmental Philosophy

The English Language Development (ELD) Program at Burlingame High School provides a bridge to the mainstream program by assisting English learners in communicating skillfully, appropriately and effectively in English, both in and out of school. Our aim is for the students to achieve the English language competence needed for academic success and for life in a literate culture. The expectations for English learners at Burlingame High School are high, as they are expected to be able to learn academic content through the English language and compete academically with native English-speaking students.
