Course Selection Process

Burlingame High School recognizes that our students lead busy lives.  Please consider carefully their commitments when deciding if 6 or 7 classes per year is right for your student.

The SMUHSD has a 7 period day to help students who need extra support and those 9th or 10th graders who want an elective in their school day.

Students who take 6 periods a year (60 credits) over the four years of high school (60 x 4 = 240 credits) and pass them all will have more than enough credits to graduate on time with their class.  The requirement for graduation is 220 credits.  A 7th class in any year is extra, for support or elective enrollment.

Please understand that the school day is from 8:30am to 3:40pm and students need to be available during this time frame for classes even if they have fewer than 7 classes.

•  INCOMING 9th GRADE STUDENTS - CHOOSE YOUR 2025-26 CLASSES 

  • All students can learn more about WHAT COURSES ARE AVAILABLE AT BHS 2025-26 by watching amazing videos & reading over the Course Description Guide 
  • BIS students will have a chance to discuss their course selections with their Counselor @ BIS on Tuesday, March 4th
  • Incoming middle school students from Crocker & all other middle schools should plan to check in with their Counselor @ BHS on Wednesday, March 5th. Your course choices should be made through our BHS Course Selection Form & SUBMITTED prior to checkin in with your Counselor
  • Lastly, we realize plans sometimes change and your student's school choice may change as well. Please take the time to complete the Change in Plans form in order to inform us and open a spot for another student.

• Incoming 10th - 12th grade transfer students should plan to check in with their Counselor @ BHS on [DATE TBD]
  •  PRINT & BRING your grade-specific Course Selection Sheet (linked below) to hand in to your Counselor

  Families are encouraged to join us at Open House & New Student Night on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
 

 Consider encouraging your student to join the AVID program if they aspire to be the first in their family to graduate from college (First Gen)!
