Music Boosters

Welcome to the BHS Music community! We are the Burlingame High School Music Boosters, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) volunteer organization (Taxpayer ID 94-6102482). Our organization was formed to support and enhance students’ music education and performance experiences under the inspiring leadership of our extraordinary music director, Mrs. Yamamoto. If you have a student in Concert Band, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, or Vocal Jazz Ensemble, your family is automatically a member of the BHS Music Boosters. We hold monthly meetings via Zoom on the third Thursday of each month.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the Burlingame High School Music Boosters is to support all music programs at BHS, enabling students and teachers to reach their highest musical potential while informing, including, and engaging music students, their families, and the greater community.

In support of this mission, the BHS Marching Band performs at all home football games—including one spectacular halftime show and the Little Big Game (hosted this year at San Mateo High School)—as well as at Back to School Night and community parades. The Jazz and Wind Ensembles represent BHS in competitions and festivals, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra participate in their own competitions and events throughout the year. These performances and appearances provide students with opportunities to develop their musical abilities and give back to the community by sharing their talents.

Aligned with our mission, the music boosters remain committed to supporting Mrs. Yamamoto in preserving the valued traditions of the BHS music experience. At the same time, we aim to create an environment that encourages continued growth across the music program, ensuring that students have the resources and encouragement they need to thrive musically.

UNIFORMS: DRESS AND CASUAL

Any uniform provided by BHS is the responsibility of the music student as long as they are a member of the BHS music program. In the event that a piece of a uniform is too small (high school students are still growing!), please let Mrs. Yamamoto know, so the student can be refitted. The black shoes requirement for jazz, wind, orchestra, and jazz vocal is the responsibility of the family. If purchasing black shoes is a financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Yamamoto.

Marching Band: The dress uniform for marching band is the full marching uniform: jacket, black overall pants, overlay, hat with plume, white gloves, and all black shoes (most students wear sneakers). Typically, students will be fitted for their uniform during band camp. They will wear their full marching uniform for our field shows (both night field show and the Little Big Game) and the Memorial Day community parade. The hats and plumes will remain in the music room.

Jazz & Wind Ensembles, Chamber Orchestra, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble: The dress uniform for jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, chamber orchestra, and vocal jazz ensemble is the dress or tuxedo, black socks or tights, and all black dress shoes. They will be fitted during school hours at the beginning of the school year. Their dress or tuxedo - and all pieces -  will be worn for all concerts, competitions, and events.

Concert Band: The dress uniform for the concert band is a white top, black bottoms, black socks or tights, and all black shoes. Students in concert band are responsible for this uniform.

Casual Uniform: The casual uniform for all music students is the free music t-shirt (designed by music staff and provided by Music Boosters) and the red BHS music windbreaker or hoodie (optional purchase via the registration form). If your student chooses not to purchase a windbreaker or personalized hoodie, a windbreaker can be borrowed from our current inventory and returned after the event. The casual uniform is worn for all football games, pep band events, and school events like Back to School.
