BHS Celebrates 100 Years of Excellence

Burlingame High School and the BHS Alumni associated hosted a hugely successful Centennial Celebration October 13-14. The two-day long celebration kicked off on October 13 with a golf tournament; a block party on Lorton Avenue, and a ceremony honoring BHS Hall of Fame Athletes spanning five decades at the Panthers football game. On October 14, the celebration continued at BHS with an opening ceremony with Master of Ceremonies and Emmy Award Winning Journalist Diane Dwyer (BHS Class of 1983). California State Assemblymember Diane Papan presented a resolution commemorating the school’s 100 years of excellence. Congressman Kevin Mullin’s Office presented a plaque in honor of the school’s 100th anniversary as well. 

Additional dignitaries that spoke at the event included City of Burlingame Vice Mayor Donna Colson and Town of Hillsborough Vice Mayor Dr. Sophie Cole. 

Dr. Jen Fong, Principal of BHS, SMUHSD Board Vice President Ligia Andrade Zuniga, BHS Class President Cora Haggarty and BHS Parent Group’s Vice President Michael Jarrett also spoke at the ceremony. 

In addition to the opening ceremony, the event also included a classic car show and student-led tours of the BHS campus including a preview of the BHS Fall Play. The BHS Band performed throughout the day and were led by BHS Music Director Kyoko Yamamoto.

After the events at BHS, the celebration continued at Washington Park and then wrapped up with a celebration on Burlingame and Broadway Avenues. 

The San Mateo Union High School District and Burlingame High School wish to thank the Burlingame Alumni Association, including Association President Rusty Knudsen (Class of 1974) and Vice President David Steil (Class of 1974), along with BHS Alumni Association Board members Melody Ackley, Jan Privitera  and their committee for their support of the centennial celebration!
